We can never know but you have to wonder if the Tories were in power
they would have answered the requests from the USA to do the same,
Harold Wilson and the labour administration had many faults but
refusing to join the US openly in the conflict was not one of them,
though there have always been rumours of attachments by UK service men
to those countries that did.
