Why are councils re-laying all the cables and replacing all the
streetlamp poles for no ****ing reason? All they needed to do was to
change the lamp on the top. What a waste of millions of pounds of
council taxes. The cables worked fine. The poles were in perfect
condition.

Because it's nearly the end of the financial year and if they don't spend
the money their budget will be cut next time?

That's probably closer to the truth than it should be. [rolls eyes]

Are all the new poles going back exactly where the old ones were ?

They are in this street. In other streets I've seen them in different places, but the spacing is still pretty similar. No matter, you can get different heads with different LEDs for different spacings anyway, without moving the poles.

If not, it may be more economic to just replace the lot and the older
underground wiring that has turned out to be a dud design at the
time the lamps are changed to LEDs.

The old ones were completely functional, nothing to suggest the wiring was dodgy.
