This is not a supply demand situation. There is no shortage and demand is
down. If there was a shortage or high demand there would be lines of
cars waiting for fuel. There is neither.

This is a "what the market will bare" pricing strategy. Have you noticed
that gasoline prices are different depending on which street corner you are
at? That is "what the market will bare" pricing 101..





It
appears that you believe that it is the source/providers of gasoline
to be
jerking the chain.

It definitely applies to the price and availability of gasoline
in the USA.

The rest of the country, pretty much, is still
paying
a third less than those that live in California. California is the
cause
of the chain jerking. Given that fact, do you really believe that
an
alternative source of energy would be less in California than most
anywhere
else in the country? Regardless of what source you will use in
California
you will still be paying a premium in energy taxes to pay for what
ever it
is that the government is collecting taxes for.

When you started mentioning the prices of gas in California and thinking
that we cared.







Gasoline will ALWAYS cost more in California than in
places like Texas.

The grade of crude used to refine California gasoline
costs more.


Is that what they are their excuse you ? I assure you it is mostly tax.





Makes the corn farmers happy though.

The refining process used in California is not only more
expensive, but more complex which limits the number of
refineries with the necessary refining processes to refine
gasoline for the California market.

We choose to clean up the muck from our vehicles rather
than spread it all over the country side. That costs money,
but it costs less than trying to clean up the environment
after the crap escapes the tail pipe.


Breathing cleaner air is it's own reward but cleaner air also
reduces health care costs.

You can do that by leaving the problem area.




Just recently California has imposed a carbon tax on the
refineries which is now being reflected at the pumps.

Now you are getting it, alternative state anyone?



Will have to wait and see if the refineries develop processes
which will reduce the carbon tax or just pay it and move on.

As long as you are willing to pay the tax, and it appears that California
is, nothing will chance. Pass the tax on to the consumer 101.



The proceeds of the carbon tax are being used to develop
alternate transportation energy sources.

Which are also taxed.




At this point in time, there is no reason to expect alternate
energy sources to cost any more in California than any place
else in the country, they might even cost less.

Can you name something that is across the board cheaper to a consumer in
California than most anywhere else in the USA except what is produced in
California.



To summarize, it is US jerking our own chain and the sooner
we as a country face it, the sooner we find solutions and have
a cleaner place to live along with increased alternate energy
supplies.

More specifically it is California.
