I'd talk with Louis Iturra (888-722-7078) who probably knows more about
the Delta 14 Bandsaw than anyone else living. Alas, he has no web site,
but his almost 200 page free catalog is really as much a high
performance manual for the 14 Delta and its clones as it is a sales item.

Louis recommends nothing LESS than a 1.5 HP industrial grade motor for
optimal performance. The latest Delta now has a 1.5 motor, though I
doubt it's as industrial grade (Baldor, etc.) as some you might be able
to obtain on your own.

I've been using Louis' products for many years now, and all have been
worthwhile additions (Bandrollers, shims, graphite and ceramic guides
and plates, tension spring, tensioner, etc.).

So I think it is well worth your time to learn what he has to say, and
then seriously consider taking his advice.
