You are apparently reading this in googlegroups, but is is
really a reflection of the usenet newsgroup rec.crafts.metalworking, and
certainly the main users in usenet have no way of knowing about "new
members". I don't know whether the googlegroups members have such a
way, and whether it works only on the groups which are not mirrors of
usenet newsgroups.
