Well, and on another note, I guess the car battery is rather weak
starting up the car when its cold, too.
And the reason is, they're both electro-chemical devices, not just purely
'electronic'.
Few purely 'diodic' semiconductor junctions are so adversely affected by
temperature that they will cease to work, except at high temps where
bonds fail or crystals crack.
But E-C devices have very narrow temperature ranges of effective
operation.
