Default First post - first turning

Maybe it would have more correct to say the first decent turning. I
started taking the outside of this wood off and I saw the spalting and
there was no way I was going to ruin it if I could help it. It is
mostly God's providence that it turned out this way, as there were a
couple incidents with tear-out, and dig-ins and at least once the whole
thing went rolling across the floor because the screws holding it to the
faceplate were not long enough. That resulted in it being a bit shorter
than it could have been.

Thanks for the comment, though.

Hi Tony

That's a good looking turning, nice shape and proportions, and if that
is your first turning I would say YOU SUCK, my first turning I would not
even have showed it to myself, anyway like to see some more, thanks for
sharing.

Have fun and take care

I've been lurking here quite some time, but I took the box in the
linked pictures off the lathe yesterday and wanted to share it with you.

I don't know what the wood is, I picked it out of a friend's wood pile
- it was the only piece not too rotten to turn. It has a coat or two
of tung oil on it. The lathe is a Smithy Super Shop.

It is OK to put _links_ to pictures in this forum, right?
