The section using a 2 meter rod and calipers should work for any
cable as long as you know it's stretch numbers.

Thanks, that's very good.
I think my method of attaching this spring scale to the line with a
Prusik loop and tensioning it until the section below the knot begins
to feel slack is close enough to stay below the working strength of
ropes and fittings.
