If you are intrested, the S.E. Woodturners meet in Ann Arbor the 1st Sunday of each Month (this Sunday) at 1:00 p.m. If you would like to attend and/of need instruction/directions call Rus Clinard at 734-663-9689. I checked the AAW book and I don't find any turners in Jackson, Ann Arbor is only about 30 miles.
