We have some bits of wall which are a mixture of a rough finish and flat
render.

The rough finish seems to be more like a very rough gritty paint than a
pebble dash.
The edges are quite sharp, and there are raise peaks, but no large
grains
in the finish.

Has anyone come across this, and knows what the wall treatment might be?

Roughcast. The pebbledash is in the cement.

A decent picture will let us decide which of the rough surfaced finishes
it is.

Agreed. Common on back (brick) walls of stone fronted Victorian terraces
in many UK cities (e.g. Bristol). Sounds like Tyrolean to me too. Not
sure if it was original.
