Glad somebody else is clued in. The Sixth Commandment is almost always incorrectly translated as "You shall not kill".

The authors of the Commandments, whether you think he/she/it/they they were Divine or Divinely-inspired humans, were very clear as to the distinction. Accidental or involuntary homicide could be dealt with by compensation to the victim's family. There were '"cities of refuge" where an involuntary killer could claim asylum to avoid pursuit by victim's family.

Deliberate murder was forbidden, and was treated quite differently.
