If you were replying to me.... Not necessarily a crimped terminal. It
depends on what the "string" is made of. If steel wire of some sort
then perhaps a spliced eye with a pin through it. If the string is
some sort of plastic - nylon etc. then perhaps a tied or glued splice
with some wrapping of the same material. A cord simply made into an
eye and wrapped tightly with thread, string, etc. is surprisingly
strong.
