Default Replace internal belts when the HP M601 printer picks up multiplesheets of paper?

I replaced the rollers with new rollers from a kit. And that solved some
of the feed problems. But, there's a lingering multiple sheet problem.
The problem occurs in the "throat" of the printer, where the toner
cartridge usually goes. ( http://crcomp.net/Diary/HPM601/throat.jpg )

It seems that the replacement of the three widest belts shown might
solve the problem. Unfortunately, those belts are deep within the
printer internals. ( http://crcomp.net/Diary/HPM601/internal.jpg )

Has anyone ever replaced similar belts? Is it even practical to
contemplate such a project?

Thank you.

So do you "flick" the leading edge of the wodge of paper before putting
in the tray?
