Well, it's all about inertia. People stick with what they know.
Economy of scale is very important here. Gotta get the price
down quickly. That won't happen if you don't force it.

One problem is that LED aren't terribly more efficient than CFL.
Utilities don't have the incentive to subsidize them.
And I've got a pile of CFL left over from when they did subsidize them.

40W-equivalent LED lamps are available at rational prices.
As soon as the 60W get down to $5, it will be time to try some.
