Says a lot of modern society if they'd fail to get to work or
school
because their car won't go.

But that's how things are nowadays.
Not having a car (for whatever reason) never stopped me getting to

Country houses would revert to peasants and townies would live in
towns.
I blame stamp duty.

No, townies would DIE in towns.

What do you suppose would keep the townies in towns?

Their inability to walk more than 200 yards
Their faith that some socialist government will 'see them right'

The townies would die in the countryside along with the country folk.

No, they would die facing the country folk, who have far higher per
capita ownership of shotguns.

And know a bunch of total wasters when they see them.

Ineptocracy

(in-ep-toc-ra-cy) €“ a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
