If you have modern mobile you can download many apps for free that
tell you about Wi-Fi in your area.

They'll tell you what is on which channel but do any analyise the
traffic levels for each AP they can hear? A channel with 9 AP's all
doing nothing but beaconing is probably a better one to choose than a
channel with 3 AP's all streaming video... Without looking at the
traffic that wouldn't be the obvious choice.
