On a related topic...

Several years ago I bought one of those "magic guns" that repairs non-working
lights. You plug the "dead" light into the gun and pull the trigger. A piezo
striker sends a high-voltage pulse to the bulb, which often lights again.

Does anyone know what's going on here?
