Default I nearly bought that house!!!

every mortgage company requires a survey - from their list - but they are a
waste of space. i spent 300 quid and in the report the surveyor said:

generally ok
you should hire a qualified electrician to cheek the electrics
you should hire a qualified plumber (corgi) to check the boiler
you should hire a timber specialist to check the timbers

What is the point of mortgage companies requiring you to pay one of their
selected "surveyors" if they cannot do a complete job?

Anybody see Builders From Hell 2003 last night?

That detatched house that was demolished due to poor building, was
nearly mine!! When we were looking to move house approx. 6 years ago it
was on the market for £115K IIRC. We offered £105K as a new kitchen
(due to dog damage) and bathroom was needed also a lot of decorating
required due to age/colours, with a view to increase the offer slightly
if needed. The vendors said "No, we want the asking price, nothing
less". So we walked away and found our present home. Phew what a near
miss that was!!!!

Any cracks etc. were not apparant as the house was fully wallpapered,
the vendors said it wasn't their colour choice, it was done like that
being the showhouse on the cul-de-sac. I wonder why it was wallpapered
and not your standard emulsion ;-)

While we were watching last night I said to SWMBO that it looked like
that house we looked at, so today on my travels I went to look and there
it was gone, plot of land surrounded by a metal safety fence.

Thank goodness the vendors didn't say "Meet us halfway and it's yours"

It's interesting to speculate whether a surveyor would have spotted

anything
when you came to take out a mortgage (assuming you wanted a mortgage).

Would
you have employed a surveyor anyway?
