Rolling resistance SUBTRACTS from the total needed to go 50, which is
the SUM of both.

If each contributes 1/2 of the total R at 50 MPH then you need 2 *
0.5R + 8 * 0.5R = 5R at 100 MPH.

There is no "8 * 0.5R" anywhere. There's no "5R" either. You are
completely lost.
