Buy a "re-con" Thinkpad laptop from someone like "tier1" and replace
the HDD with an SSD - you'll then have FAR more performance than any
tablet with virtually the same "instant on" for less money.

But you don't get the new touchscreen UI.

True, but like everything else the choice is a compromise - for me the
balance is clearly in favour of what I've suggested because I use a
computer as a tool. For someone not wanting to attach devices or modify
who just wants to browse or use the social media then a table might be OK.
