I've owned optical-disk players for almost 30 years, and have never had to
clean the optics of one for any reason.

The spinning disk tends to blow dust off the lens, so it's unlikely such a
cleaner would ever be needed.

The need for "cleaning" is completely dependent upon the environment. The cleaners available with the brushes are a waste of money. Over hte years I have cleaned 100s of players. The most common cause of problems: Smoking. Smoke will contaminate the lens over time making the unit extremely sensitive to vibrations. Also, those units close to the kitchen often have grease films as well.
