Most recently in New Orleans (protection from out of town in some cases out
of country do bads) when the police could NOT be contacted and even if they
could be their response was literally weeks away.

Over the past 50+ years there were, thankfully a few, other instances again
where LEO were hours away.

As to at home accidents, guns are not the only problem but all can be traced
to carelessness on the part of adults.
