DIY ideas for Raspberry Pi?

that is a first class idea...
can it control stepper motors directly tho?
and detect optical limit switches?
Hopefully the rPi's DSI interface will also be available, so that I
can hang cheap S/H laptop screens onto it, so won't need a separate
monitor.
