This animal is described as the worlds smallest vertebrate, beating
out a male anglerfish that lives as a parasite on the female. Anyway,

Parasites are usually thought of as winners, getting the better end of
the deal. Not so the male anglerfish. The poor guy attaches to his
mate's body and melts away, becoming nothing more than a sack of gonads
along for the ride.
