Keep them on their books? I'm no accountant, but why would they have to
keep them on their books? They were purchased with cash. Regardless - they
were purchased. Should be worth face value forever in my opinion.

Expiring gift cards was a big problem for a lot of people in Ontario,
Canada. The Ontario government has now ordered the removal of expiry
dates on all gift cards.
