I am so upset now because i did break thing instead of fixing it. how
to repair it now? home depot is not open today and i am so frustrated.
any idea on how to fix my bathroom ceiling would be very much
appreciated.

1) Looks like an old plaster on lathe style of construction
2) You need to measure the thickness of the plaster to make sure you can
get the right wallboard
3) You need to remove enough of the plaster so that you actually expose
some of the crossbeams
4) The cut a piece of wallboard to fit the new cleaned out hole
5) Apply take around the edges
6) Mud the wallboard and edges with a couple of thin layers
7) Prime
8) Paint

IN the meantime, covering the hole in the attic with a blanket will help
reduce heat transfer between the bathroom and the attic.
