There are just these pockets of True Belief, in the sense that Eric
Hoffer used the term.

The genuine true believers will agree to be tested properly for free.
After failing the test the intelligent among them will admit they've
been gullible.

The phony true believers won't agree to be tested properly for any
amount of money. They can't take the chance of having to own up to any
gullibility. Which is far from intelligent IMO.
