Its widespread practice for companies to misuse DD to overcharge or
prematurely charge customers. But that aside, giving a company free
reign over one's bank account sounds like madness to me.


A lot of the time you *have* to use DD to get the best deals. Over
the years I have saved a considerable amount of money by using them.

OTOH the DD guarantee does not always work as one bank I used refused
to invoke the guarantee when requested.

Did you refer them to the Banking Ombudsman/Ombudsperson
