Karl,

Some time back, you described a method for burning out stumps in your
orchard. My brother mentioned that he had taken out his apple trees
in his front yard but still has the stumps to deal with, what was your
technique?

Roger Shoaf

Iggy was close, drill holes in the stumps and pour in potassium
nitrate fertilizer. Maybe refill the holes after a few months. Maybe
six months later fill with diesel for a few days. Then start a small
fire
and burn it out. It will burn clear back to the small roots.

BTW, ammonium nitrate is all but impossible to buy since Tim Mcvay
used it to blow away that Fed. building.

What's in the stump rot kits they sell?
http://goo.gl/Z5DSj Oh, saltpeter. (potassium nitrate)
That'll work as well, won't it?

Karl, where can I buy potassium nitrate, at farm stores? What is it
called, just potassium nitrate?

i

I buy 50 lb. bags of Potasium Nitrate from Johnson Greenhouse supply
for $52. http://www.jrjohnson.com/home.php part#74-13646

or, you can get 12 oz. of stump rotter for $19.95 at any hardware
store.
