Default Cautious Optimism Re Brown Marmarated Stink Bug

Sept. 2011 was better than Sept. 2010. The largest daily kill this Sept.

period and using a fly swatter around the permimeters; vacuums in the
garage and house; and deltamethrin directly on insects that were attached
to the screen on one of the decks, counted over 1,000 bugs RIP. And one
day in late October, my murder tally was over 1,200.

The pundits say that the bugs started two weeks earlier in 2010. Also, in
2011, some farmers were allowed to use pyrethrins. In addition, August and
September were extremely wet, with 16" for the two months as opposed to the
normal 7" for Aug.-Sept. 2010. These are the reasons for the cautious
optimism.

Still, October looms and it was worse than Sept. last year.

Neighbor has a stink bug trap but said it was pricey.

Googled this up:

This time of year, they're coming in to hibernate and look for narrow
dark areas to enter. I may try this idea. Couple of years ago, I had a
pair of gloves in the garage and when I put them on, they were full of
stink bugs. Several time, I've had them crawl down the collar of my
shirt looking for that dark warm place. Real PITA.

I've been vacuuming them up with a Dustbuster which I dump in a bucket
of soapy water. Soap kills surface tension for them and they drown.
