Worked for the government all my life, mostly in the NHS as an

Now retired on a reasonable pension. Well good by todays standards now
everything is f****d up over here.

up a house.
I had enough after three months. No joke living in a trailer I can
tell you.
Try living in a house in southern NC during August with no AC. Did that
for the first two weeks of a rehab I did until the AC got straightened

Lack of AC is virtually never a problem here. We very rarely have
climatic extremes.
More than 85degF is rare here as is less than 25.
We did have zero F last Winter but it was the lowest temperature ever
recorded.
