That seems a curious failure. Was that the cylinder head coming off? If
one or two studs failed I'd expect the gasket to blow out and then the
pressure would be dispersed and at least some of the studs would hang
on, even if they got fairly stretched. If a rod failed, would there be
enough energy in the now-free rod and piston to knock the head off?


About 15-17 seconds into the video, you can see smoke out front, and the
engine note changes... Perhaps a piston burned through and the
turbocharger was able to stuff enough fuel into the crankcase to blow it
up from there?


You can also see the exhaust pipe distend at :14 seconds. That's where I
would have got back.
