AP IMPACT: US nuke regulators weaken safety rules

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Federal regulators have been working closely
with the nuclear power industry to keep the nation's aging reactors
operating within safety standards by repeatedly weakening those standards,
or simply failing to enforce them, an investigation by The Associated
Press has found.

One would think that any sane, free-market-based power plant owner/operator
would go to great lengths to maintain safe, reliable operation because
incidents/accidents are so astronomically expensive, both in dollars and
in bad PR.

The operative words here being "sane" and "free-market."

The point is Obama is supposed to toughen up the weaked standards. He
is just going with the flow like the last 10 or 20 Presidents.

As far as the power company goes, the CEO is collecting his enormous
salary no matter what, cut corners = get a bigger bonus, screw up bad
enough and get a multi million dollar buy-out of his contract.
