Seems a mulching plate or bager are optional.

I just ordered the mulching cover. Not expensive but after seeing the
cuttings, I do need it.

The mulching will feed the lawn turf. No need to buy fertilizer.

*LESS* need to buy fertilizer. It doesn't eliminate the need.
