I remember an event with my sister when we were teens. We were at a
friends watching someone play basketball well down the hillside. She
asked why the sound of the ball hitting the ground came after she saw it
hit the ground. I explained the difference between the speed of light vs
the speed of sound. Well, sis was nothing if not opinionated and willing
to defend that opinion to her last breath. She soundly rejected my
explanation and we got into quite an argument over it until Mom showed up.

I see this sort of manipulation all the time on TV. Kinda scary when you
think about it...
