My problem is the pilot will only stay lilt as long as the gas
regulator selector is dpressed as soon as you let up pilot goes out
have held flame on for ten or more minutes *without luck?
this is a standard thermocouple unit using a Model 36C03 Type 245
regulator
the thermocouple has been replaced the pilot tubing is clear *the
pilot when lit is blue strong and making good contact with the
bthermocouple.

looking for constructive input please

thanks

The pilot flame needs to be hitting the tip of the thermocouple.
Sounds like you believe that is ok. *Heating the thermocouple opens a
safety shutoff valve in the gas valve. *Make sure the thermocouple
connection to the gas valve is tight as well. *Pushing the button in
bypasses that safety valve to allow you to light the pilot. *If
everything else checks out then your problem is most likely the gas
valve. *Unfortunately those can be pricey. *However they are also
really common if you want to try to find a used one or one off ebay.

Assuming the new thermocouple is good, the only thing left is the
gas valve.
