We had these things in the kitchens at work and every couple of months
it was a strip down for a chemical descale due to furring up.
They are an absolute menace and IMHO no justification to have them in a
domestic situation. Modern jug kettle costing £5 can boil a cupful in a
minute or less and is far more economic than keeping several pints of
water at boiling point 24/7 however much insulation there is.
