Interesting stat around that time. If you look at the 5 years before
the takeover, the average increase over the next 5 years was about 3/4%
lower (year to year increase). The next 5 years, it was back up to what
it was before the takeover. GOP's fiscal restraint lasted only until
they found out how much it could be spending other's money. After that
it was Katy bar the door as both sides starting shovelling out with both
hands.

Which is why I wrote "more or less, conservative" rather than "Republican".
