I was in Southeast Asia when the American invasion forces got
unceremoniously booted out of Vietnam; I saw Prez Tricky Dickie resign
in humiliation live on TeeVee. I had no idea at the time how badly we'd
lost to the Communists - they've taken over Washington DC.

And I'm no Repugnocrat! Do we really want to go from the party of gimme
gimme gimme gimme gimme to the party of KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL?

Actually, Rich, I believe that you will find, if you dig deep enough
in the military manuals that even general officers are required to
salute a MOH recipient and are required to initiate the salute. At
least that's what I was always told during my 21 years in the service.
I could be wrong. You know how that goes.

OK, fair enough. I was only referring to ordinary officers and enlisted
men - I can't address the issue of saluting a Medal of Honor recipient,
since I've never met one or been involved in the pomp and ceremony.

I once did see an old grizzled master sergeant chew out a bomber pilot
who happened to be a major; "MAJOR! You Didn't Return My Salute!" The
major was only a bomber pilot, whose head was in the clouds anyway; he
just looked confused, saluted the MSGT, and they went on their way.

So, maybe my memory of military rules and regulations is a little rusty;
it's been 40 years, after all.

I joined the Air Force in 1968 to evade the draft. ;-)

Cheers!
Rich

I joined in 1961 to get away from home, and where did I end up? At
Fort Lee, Virginia 100 miles almost to the inch from my folk's front
door! :-) I retired in 1988 here at George AFB. I know that spread
doesn't add up to 21 years but I had three breaks in service totalling
about 7 years.
