Not only are they built for a specific tunnel, they're scrapped at the
completion of the tunnel.

I went on a geological field trip to Yucca Mountain, NV a few years
ago. *The tunnelling machine used to drill the nuclear repository is
still there. *It's used as a photo-op background.

They did a lot of goofy things at Nellis AFB/Yuccan Mountain back
duirng the Cold War.

When the TBM's that bored the "Chunnel" were done, they just drilled
off to the side of the tunnel bores and left them. They're still
there, entombed forever.
