Normal people, men in particular can scare the hell out of a woman by
approaching when we aren't aware they are there. I was returning
books at
the library book drop. Lots of traffic was going by making loud
traffic
sounds. I turned to leave and a man was right behind me. Geeze, a
blaring
scream came out of me and I yelled at him not to stand so close.

Another time I was loading groceries in the car and a guy came up to
me
while I was turned to the car. I didn't scream this time, but it
startled
me. It turned out he was going to take the cart back to the store.

So guys, say something before you get up close. If we don't see you
coming
along, we don't know why you are so close and what the heck you're
going to
do.
