The real factors are how clean the units are, and what type of
compressor. Rotary scroll is far more efficient than an old piston
compressor.

I've seen outdoor AC unit drawing about 4.5 amps at 220 volt. (2 or
2.5 ton, can't remember). Rotary scroll compressor.

Dirty units draw a lot more power.
