SFWIW:

Made a side table for the grill using redwood 2x4s with 1/4" spacing
between for top and "X" cross legs (Think cross buck or Swing's
campfire stool) for table legs and apron.

Used S/S deck screws and bunged them for ass'y.

Mine was about 20" x 24" but just about any size that fits your needs
works.
