No, it is more subtle than that. Gambling, particularly poker machines, have
evolved to induce a sense of euphoria (almost) designed to put the player "in
the zone" so they can't resist another press of the button. While a couple of
years old now this 4 Corners edition on problem gambling in Australia shows how
devastating and far reaching the problem can be for those who become addicted. I
doubt that the situation in the US would be any different despite the variation
in governing laws.
