Default News Server Error Message

I think Cox has sold out and gone to a cheapy news server...

I'm constantly getting error messages of the form: "Error reported by
server: 502 Maximum number of connections reached.

What is that ".iad" above? I seem to recall that "iad" was a
monumental source of spam.

Transcript of E-mails to/from Cox...

As usual, Cox "Support" obfuscates. The Usenet News Server has been
really bad/slow/hangs for the past three days. This morning at least
there is some retrieval capability, though I can't presently post a
simple text message.

Constantly getting error messages of the form: "Error reported by
server: 502 Maximum number of connections reached.
(newsfe14.iad)(Tornado v1.2.7.560-2). (Retry...)"

Which is a server problem.

Why can't you simply admit you have a network issue, or you changed
Usenet providers, or whatever you screwed up? Does management require
you to _never_ admit a Cox defect/fault?

Instead of acting like men, you act like a bunch of fairies :-D

As for your statement, "...Cox does not provide support for e-mail
clients other than Outlook Express." Seems to me that violates
anti-trust laws. I'll run that by my lawyer. Besides who, but a
fairy, would use Outhouse Excuse for a news reader ?:-)

Dear Jim,

Thank you for your recent e-mail. I understand you are having
difficulties to access the Cox Newsgroups service. I apologize for any
inconvenience this issue may be causing.

At the moment I would like to inform you our newsgroups service has
experienced various changes since the last maintenance. Currently, our
newsgroup servers do not require authentication to access them. For this
reason, please remove any settings (username/password) you have in your
newsgroups reader that could cause an authentication error. Please click
on the link below to access information on how to properly configure
your newsgroups without authenticating your connection:

Please note that Cox does not provide support for e-mail clients other
than Outlook Express. If you encounter difficulties following the steps
in the above link, please contact the official support for the software
you are using.

If you are away from home and have already checked your settings, but
are still unable to access your newsgroups, please keep in mind that our
Cox newsgroup servers are only valid while connected to Cox High Speed
Internet. If you are using a different Internet service provider while
away from home, please contact the support department for this service
in order to request the newsgroup servers for that specific connection.

I do hope that I have been able to provide you with the information you
requested. If I have not, or if you have any other inquiries, please do
not hesitate to contact us again.

For the past two days, access to Newsgroups has been, at best, sporadic.
And your non-responsiveness to inquiries is not conducive to good
customer relations. If you're not going to properly support Newsgroups,
just say so, and we'll take our business elsewhere.
