So, not having wads of cash bursting their way out of my back pocket,
what's the best way to remove the paint from said door and start again?
Paint stripper, heat gun, sand paper (I do have an angle grinder
?
If it is really in need of stripping, then either of the first two. BTW,
if the door is around 7' x 7' - ish, you can get a brand new insulated,
remote control operated and insulated roller door for less than £500 -
assuming you are willing to self install.
Have you a recommendation? This is uk.d-i-y so I'm willing to install
myself. Door opening is 2.3(w)x2.2(h).
I bought one from an Ebay seller based at S****horpe, but there are others
selling similar. I ordered it to size, collected it and installed it. Came
with 2x wireless remotes and a manual handle, to which I added a wired
control and later a IR detector to stop the door closing onto
anything/anyone which might be in the way.

Many years ago ( must be 15 or more ) I was tasked to visit one of my local
area BT manager's who worked from home in an expensive part of Macclesfield
to upgrade some telecom/computer equipment there.
I was pleased to see he was home as evidenced by his expensive shiny car
half in/half out of the garage.
I knocked on the front door by his garage door - no reply.
I saw a bell push a little more to the side than you would expect and rang
the bell push.
His automatic garage door started to slowly close towards his car - oh
********.
I can't remember exactly what I did to stop the door scratching his car but
it worked, I seem to remember putting my coat then tool case on his bonnet.
He came sauntering out from the back garden and explained he had added the
bell push for convenience and it only closed and, did not open, his garage
door.
No damage done but I sweated a bit.
