Had already looked at replacing our up'n'over and been quoted about 450-
500 including new frame etc etc. Didn't bother in the end.

Anyhoo ... One day bloke from some double glazing company stolls up and
asks if I want a quote on a new garage door. OK sez I.

"Can I have you name, land line phone number ..."

Er, no. I just want a quote.

"It'll have to measured".

OK, I'll hold one end the tape and you write down the number at your end
...

"Oh, I'm just collecting leads for my manager, he'll give you a quote".

Why don't you measure the door and phone him and ask for a quote?

"What time would be convenient for him to see yourself and your wife for
a quote?"

No need for the wife, just a tape measure will do.

"Can I say 5pm?"

Can you give me a quote?

"So, you will both be available at 5pm?"

No. Can you just get out a tape measure, look it up on your little sheet
and give me a quote here and now?

"I can't give you a quote. My manager has to speak to yourself and your
wife"

At this point I grabbed the little card he was scribbling on, ripped it
into 1000's of tiny peices and threw them at him.

He left.

Poor sod - Being a Monkey for a double glazing firm is had work - 35 quid
for a lead ... They don't last long.

Oh well. If I'd got a quote for less than 450 quid I'd have had it done.

Sadly, they suckered the neighbours into a full window refit. I dread to
think what they paid. The plain glass in their bathroom window was
replaced after a while, but not until after we'd all had a good laugh ...

My man was the area sales manager no less.
He never asked to see the wife, but his sales pitch was just perfect - apart
from closing the deal.
So many discounts, even a discretionary manager's discount.
I still can't work out if anything he told me was true. Right down to the
picture of his kid on his laptop.
