Suffolk Latch thro 40mm of wood - Is it possible

I have a gate that needs substantial cross bracing, and a result the
Suffolk Latch lever needs to go thro just over 46mm of the bracing.

Would the latch be OK in doing that ?? would it work OK.

Or is there another way.

The slamming post is only 75 mm wide, therefore with the 40mm bracing
and the boarding of 6mm this would only leave 29mm for the vertical
bit of wood that stops the gate .

Is this 29mm sufficient ??
