The leaves have an oil on them causing skin lesions, and the branches and
roots if scratched or brushed may cause a rash.

I never got poison oak until I was excavating an old bottle dump and
bumped my arm against the stub of a cut off root - about ½ inch across
and oozing sap. it left a burned spot on my arm that took weeks to heal
and ever since I have gotten a mild reaction to it.

It is a 3 leave bushy plant
with berries on it that turns a bright red orange in fall.

It is also viny and climbs the pine trees here on the Monterey
Peninsula. In the late summer it isn't uncommon to see tourists cutting
bouquets of branches of the shine red leaves. It is really quite pretty.
