Default Should I get a 3 jaw chuck or a 4 jaw chuck for my dividing head?

Assuming that your dividing head allows for disengaging the worm gear,
dialing in the 4 jaw is quick. As others have already mentioned.

I've looked at the drawings and the unit and determined that it doesn't. If it was able
to disengage, I'd buy the 4 jaw. My lathe sports a 4 jaw, dialing it in has not been that
big a deal. The lathe has a smaller 3 jaw that is too big for the dividing head, I've
never actually used the 3 jaw chuck on the lathe. Usually turns into, how long, how much
effort to change chuck vs, how long to indicate in the 4 jaw.

I'll go for a 3 jaw, the trueset types are too pricey for my blood in this application. We
have a 3 jaw on a Leblond at work with the trueset feature, that lathe has a 4 jaw that
has never been mounted since I've worked there Critical work, you chuck the part,
center the chuck. Sweet.
